The Avant Garden Art Co. Brand Identity

2026

Client: The Avant Garden Art Company

Type: Brand Development, Social Media, Print & Digital Collateral

Role: Art Director, Brand Developer, Graphic Designer

The Avant Garden Art Company is a mobile creative studio based in Atlanta, Georgia, bringing hands-on artistic workshops directly to clients in homes, offices, restaurants, event venues, and beyond. Built on the belief that creativity doesn’t require perfection, the brand encourages experimentation and expressive, low-pressure making rather than polished technique.

As the sole designer, I developed the brand from the ground up, including the logo system, color palette, typography, and mini style guide. The visual identity translates the studio’s philosophy of imperfection and experimentation into a brand that feels warm, artistic, approachable, and intentionally unconventional.

The logo was built around the ideas of movement, freedom, and embracing the unplanned, which are the core principles of The Avant Garden experience.

The wordmark uses JA Jayagiri Sans, a rounded sans-serif with organic, irregular forms. Its unconventional letterforms give the wordmark a sense of movement and spontaneity, helping the identity feel expressive and approachable rather than overly refined or corporate.

The icon is an abstracted letter “A,” creating a visual connection to the name while avoiding a literal representation of a garden. Its flowing, organic form reflects the idea that creativity doesn't have to follow a perfect path to have intention behind it. The result is a mark that feels imperfect by design—expressive, distinctive, and functional.

The identity was designed as a flexible logo system rather than a single lockup. The primary logo establishes the full brand presence, while the standalone wordmark and icon allow the identity to adapt across social media, promotional materials, merchandise, and other brand applications.
